Rougham Estate's tree barn opens daily 20 November to 23 December. Pick your own on the plantation on 7, 8, 14 and 15 November: £15 a slot plus the tree.

Rougham Estate, which has grown Christmas trees just outside Bury St Edmunds for more than forty years, opens its tree sales at Blackthorpe Barn on Friday 20 November 2026 and sells every day until Wednesday 23 December. Before that, on two weekends in November, you can walk the plantation and pick a tree while it is still in the ground.

The quick answer

  • Blackthorpe Barn, Rougham, IP30 9HZ: daily from 20 November to 23 December, 9.30am to 5pm, Sundays 9.30am to 4pm. No booking, dogs welcome, cards and cash taken.
  • Pick your own on the plantation: Saturday 7, Sunday 8, Saturday 14 and Sunday 15 November, 10am to 2pm. Booking essential, £15 a check-in slot on top of the price of the tree.
  • 2026 prices are not out yet. The estate’s own guide from previous years: about £45 for a 6ft Nordmann or Fraser fir, about £30 for a 6ft Norway spruce. Small potted trees from about £12.
  • Nordmann firs from late November, Norway spruce from early December.

Everything here is from Rougham Estate’s Christmas tree page and its pick your own page, checked on 24 October 2026.

Blackthorpe Barn, daily from 20 November

The tree sales area opens on Friday 20 November and runs to Wednesday 23 December, from 9.30am to 5pm, closing at 4pm on Sundays. There is no booking. The estate grows its trees within a mile of the barn and says they are cut within days of going on sale.

  • What is on sale: Nordmann fir, the best for holding its needles, for the whole season, subject to stock; Norway spruce, the traditional scented tree, from early December; and some Fraser fir and blue spruce. Cut trees run from 3ft to 25ft.
  • Potted trees: up to about 1m tall, in the courtyard between the tree area and the Christmas shop, from about £12, while stocks last.
  • Trees over 10ft have to be ordered in advance from the estate’s Christmas tree manager, Simon Eddell, by email through the estate.
  • Delivery: within 30 miles of the barn, priced by distance; again, arranged with Simon Eddell.
  • Paying: cards and cash. Rougham Estate gift vouchers can also be spent on trees.
  • Dogs are welcome.

The estate warns that Norway spruce should not go indoors too early and will need watering. On the published price list every 2026 size is still marked “tbc”.

Pick your own on the plantation, 7, 8, 14 and 15 November

On two weekends in November the estate opens the plantation so you can choose a tree where it has been growing. This year it is at The Rookery, Rougham Heath Grain Stores, Sow Lane, Rougham (satnav IP30 9HZ), from 10am to 2pm on:

  • Saturday 7 and Sunday 8 November
  • Saturday 14 and Sunday 15 November

Booking is essential. You book a check-in time online for £15, which covers the plantation visit and the estate finding, cutting and preparing your tree; the tree itself is paid for separately when you collect it. Online sales close at midday on Friday 6 November for the first weekend and midday on Friday 13 November for the second, unless they sell out first (Rougham Estate).

How it works, from the estate’s page:

  • Up to three trees per booking. The second and third cost a further £15 each, paid by card at the check-in hut. The plantation takes cards only.
  • You pick, they cut. The tree is cut a day or two before the collection week you choose, then waits at Blackthorpe Barn, wrapped, from 9.30am on the Saturday to 5pm on the Thursday.
  • Collection weeks: 21 to 26 November, 28 November to 3 December, or 5 to 10 December. All trees on one booking go in the same week.
  • Prices: the 2026 list comes out “a week or so before” the plantation weekends. The guide from previous years is about £45 for a 6ft Nordmann or Fraser fir and about £30 for a 6ft Norway spruce; each tree is measured and priced at this year’s rates.
  • Terrain: wheelchairs and prams are welcome, but the ground is very uneven and muddy after rain. Dogs on leads can come. The nearest facilities are at Blackthorpe Barn.

Also at the barn

Rougham’s Christmas shop is open with free admission and parking until 23 December, and the Arts and Crafts Fair fills Blackthorpe Barn on five weekends from 14 November to 13 December, 10am to 4pm, at £2.50 online or £3 on the door, under-16s free (Rougham Estate). Our Christmas markets page has every fair in and around the town.

Getting there

Blackthorpe Barn is just south of junction 45 of the A14, in Rougham. The estate’s directions: look for the gates to a long tree-lined avenue at the White House junction; the barn is down the avenue on the right. The what3words reference is newly.sofas.debating. Parking is free, there is a 20mph limit on site, and the estate warns that paths can be muddy. Check our roadworks page for A14 closures before you set off, and our parking page if you are combining it with a trip into town.
