  • Sunday 8 November 2026, parade from 10.15am, wreath-laying at the Angel Hill war memorial from 10.30am.
  • The field gun fires at 11am, and it is loud. The council warns families with young children and pets to be ready.
  • Afterwards a service of about 40 minutes at St Mary’s Church, then the parade returns to the Abbey Gardens. Free, no ticket.

The running order

From the Our Bury St Edmunds event page, which gives the 2026 date:

Time What

11am Field gun in the Abbey Gardens fires to start and end the two-minute silence

West Suffolk Council’s own event listing says the gun “is expected to be very loud so please prepare yourselves, young children and any pets”. Admission is free.

At the cathedral

St Edmundsbury Cathedral holds its own Remembrance worship. In 2025 it moved Choral Mattins to 10am on Remembrance Sunday, held the King Edward VI School service on the Friday before, and kept an observed silence at 11am on 11 November (St Edmundsbury Cathedral). The 2026 times are not posted yet. Armistice Day, 11 November, falls on a Wednesday this year.

Haverhill: Sunday 8 November, in the afternoon

Haverhill Town Council lists Remembrance Sunday on Sunday 8 November 2026 with “more information to come” (Haverhill Town Council). Last year’s format, from the council’s 2025 page:

Still to be confirmed

  • Road closures in Bury St Edmunds for the parade. They go through a temporary traffic order, and we will add them from the notice when it appears.
  • The 2026 cathedral service times, and Haverhill’s 2026 timings.
  • Newmarket’s parade: Newmarket Town Council had not listed it when we checked.

For parking on the morning, see our parking page. Closures will also be on our roadworks page. The Abbey Gardens, where the parade ends, open at 9am on Sundays: see our Abbey Gardens page.
